Explanation[edit | edit source]

There are two possible explanations:

  • Jon has eaten his own doughnut, thereby making his face in the third panel one of "Sure, I ate that donut. You got a problem with that?"[1]
  • Garfield has eaten Jon's doughnut, and put up a sign claiming Jon ate it, thus making Jon's look in the third panel one of severe disappointment.

The title is actually neutral between the two possibilities, as "Truth-Enhanced" usually means "Lying", but it could be being used unironically here (or, if using something usually used ironically straight can be called "ironically", this usage could be called "ironically unironic").

The Author Writes[edit | edit source]

After seeing 1106: D'oh, Nuts!, I looked at the original strip, and thought the joke could be made subtler. So, here we are. (I also wanted to do a spelling fix, but "donut" for "doughnut" is too common an error to be worth the trouble of figuring out what font this is.)

Original strip: 2012-04-09

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{a lone doughnut sitting at the table}
Sign: Jon's donut.
{Garfield walks past the doughnut}
Sign: Jon's donut.
{Jon sits beside the empty plate where the doughnut was}
Sign: Jon ate Jon's donut.

Later references[edit | edit source]

1281: Donut Wars (the strip that declared "Jon's Donut" a meme) was directly inspired by seeing this strip; thus, if you want to blame somebody for the Donut Wars meme, you have your pick between Lubaf, MadDogBV and Cody.

Footnote, included here because Lubaf wanted to provide what TVTropes calls "Word of God", and it is far too late at this point to post on the forums about it[edit | edit source]
