Explanation[edit | edit source]

This comic is a reference to the surreal concept album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by the British rock band Genesis. It concerns a boy named Rael trying to save his brother John from an underground land inhabited by bizarre creatures and other hazards. Garfield takes on the role of Rael here, and his lines are taken verbatim from the penultimate song, "In the Rapids". At the end of said song, Rael finds out that John has his own face ("Something's changed! That's not your face/It's mine! It's mine!"), implying that they were the same person (or, according to Phil Collins, a split personality), which is illustrated literally here. As for the title, "It." is the last song on the album.

This probably doesn't spoil anything that makes sense. Wonderful album though.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: Hang on, Jon! We're out of this at last.
{Garfield holds Jon's hand across panels}
Garfield: {to Jon} Something's changed! That's not your face!
{Jon's face is revealed to be the same as Garfield's as Garfield is shocked}

Notes[edit | edit source]

The comic's title originally lacked its ending punctuation.
