Explanation[edit | edit source]

In short: The author is implying the original strip lacked any humor. Since the result of removing something that isn't there results in a product that is, functionally, identical to the original, the result is the same as Identity Function Garfield.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

x - 0 = x

Ooh! Scathing!

(Those of you who are confused should check out the original comic.)

Original strip: 2012-11-27.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield creeps up behind Jon}
{Garfield stretches his mouth, sticks his tongue out, and makes crazy eyes}
at the back of Jon's head. Jon continues staring forward.
Jon: {oblivious} Odd... My self-esteem just dipped.
