Explanation[edit | edit source]

The original comic stopped at the third panel, leaving us with only Garfield's explanation for this extremely localized weather effect. The author added a black/white inverse version of the (in)famous car decal depicting Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes fame urinating, often on a thing that the one who had it applied doesn't like (a sports team, a racer's number, an organization... custom decals may also be purchased). Bill Watterson neither makes nor endorses these decals, and United Press Syndicate tried to stop them at one time. But their popularity (and the fact that they're made by many small bootleggers rather than a single company) makes that sort of thing hard to do.

At any rate, perhaps an unauthorised image of Calvin is just the thing for a strip edited for a site not sponsored, endorsed, or authorised by Paws, Inc.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Original Garfield: 1982-09-21.
