Explanation[edit | edit source]

This is the infamous pudding pops strip (or rather, SRoMG strip 614) stuck in a time loop. The title references the famous comedy Groundhog Day, where a man is forced to relive the same day over and over until he improves his own character.

Jon's line, however, is a more obscure reference - namely, the light novel/anime Haruhi Suzumiya, which is best summed up as being about a Japanese girl with unknown reality warping powers being held down by some of her friends. One installment of the series (known as "Endless Eight") centers around the group finding themselves repeating the last two weeks of summer break over and over again, as Haruhi finds herself wanting to do more each time. The anime adaptation tried to illustrate how this felt to the characters by playing what was essentially the same episode eight times - thus, the phrase "We have entered an endless recursion of time" became a meme among anime nerds.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Yeah, yeah, the Pudding Pops remixes are tired, but I couldn't resist this. Ripped the idea from an earlier strip.

Original strip: 2001-11-28.

Original SRoMG strip: #614.
