Explanation[edit | edit source]

An easy pun on Garfield Minus Garfield -- just swap out the middle word for the traditional Brazilian cheese Minas! (Incidentially, said food got its name from its state of origin: Minas Gerais.)

The author's note provides an opportunity for a similar pun on Minas Tirith, a location from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth novels.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

It's 2am as I write this, and I don't think I'm going to get away with this. But here I am anyway.

Original strip from 2004-01-13; picture from Wikipedia, File:Queijo Minas Frescal.JPG.

I don't want to talk about it, except to note that I eagerly anticipate Garfield Minas Tirith.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Mouse: Cheese! {running away from Garfield, carrying a block of minas cheese}
