Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

If you read Wikipedia's article on "cat years", you'll discover that, at time the strip used here showed up, Garfield was more than 100 in human years. At time of writing, Garfield's age is closer to the current world record holder for cat lifetime, Creme Puff, who was 38 years old when she died (although, admittedly, not over it, so Garfield being that old is still vaguely within the realm of possibility). Thus inspiring this rather morbid strip. (I'll admit to some inspiration from Terry Pratchett, here, as well.)

Original strip: 2000-06-19.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Garfield, wake up. It's Monday.
Garfield: I HATE Mondays!
Jon: {Holds up a cake} And it's the day Jim Davis said he was going to let you die!
Garfield: {Happily} I thought this day would never come!
