Explanation[edit | edit source]

The last Variations on a Haircut strip was 198, in which Garfield erased part of Jon's head with a pencil. Here, Jon is not only rather muscled, but has relatively long hair. Possibilities:

  • This Jon was already muscled, and had even longer hair, the latter of which, Garfield semi-fixed with his razor.
  • This Jon was pretty much the way we remember him, but this razor somehow added hair and toned muscle.

Speaking of toned muscle, Jon's body -- in both the not-head and the hair senses -- here comes from a strip in which Garfield found he could get a lifetime supply of lasagna be pressing "1", but was disappointed to learn it was just a dream, a fact he was able to deduce from Jon's appearance.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This is the second of two strips based on the same strip (2005-05-17).

The new art here comes from (2007-10-15) one of my favourite recent Garfields. I just love the way Jon looks; it's just like in a dream, when someone you know says or does something they would never really do, or looks completely different but has the same identity, and the dream sticks in your head and you can't get it out of your head for the rest of the day.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Jon stands with an incredibly muscled body and long, flowing locks of hair, like some kind of Latino hunk.}
Jon: So much for home barbering.
Garfield: {holding up hair clippers} I thought I did a pretty good job.
