Explanation[edit | edit source]

To follow up from the original Garfield strip's car horn and the Square Root of Minus Garfield strip's yelling, this cereal sings a song sung by a different Binky; appropriately, one that shares its name with a supporting character (usually) in the animated PBS show Arthur. The author's notes explain everything handily, but what's worth noting is that the next episode, "Meet Binky" (which, given that each episode is 11 minutes long, would normally air immediately after "Binky Rules") reveals that said band is actually holographic. Also worth noting is that the song in question is actually "Matalii ja Mustii" by the Finnish band Värttinä, and the translated lyrics are... saucy, to say the least.

As for the rest of the description, many Square Root of Minus Garfield strips (including some of Nyperold's) utilize a font called "Garfield", which is sort of similar to the font used in real Garfield strips. One problem, however, is that the font is pure black (or whatever color you choose to make it), whereas the real strips' default lettering is made up of shades of gray, as well. It's fairly noticeable, particularly when a strip uses both. (It's even more noticeable when the author doesn't bother to add spaces so the text settles into the balloons like they would in the real strip, instead leaving it left-justified.) Copying and pasting letters from the same strip or surrounding ones can have its own issues, but is generally less conspicuous.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

So, Sloublues supports the inclusion of more Binky, eh?

Back in Season 3 of Arthur, there was an episode called "Binky Rules". In it, graffiti was discovered bearing the titular statement; this was, of course, suspected to be the work of Tough Customer leader Binky Barnes. After an investigation on the part of both the Holmesian Fern and the private-eye-esque Buster, the culprit was found to be none other than employees of a radio station promoting a band called... Binky, whose music had been playing at different times throughout the episode.

Naturally, the cereal is singing, well, that song.

(Also, I replaced the Garfield font with letters from Garfield strips. Honestly, while the font is more convenient, it does stick out like a sore thumb, so I like to go the extra mile these days.)
