Explanation[edit | edit source]

Of course, what would Garfield in 2053 be without Square Root of Minus Garfield in 2053?

Whereas Garfield in 2053 simply reuses the same image of Garfield for all three panels, SRoMG in 2053 takes it several steps further. Like the former, SRoMG in 2053 is meant to satirize common aspects of its fore-bearer (apparently, it will reach 16,250 strips by 2053); the author's notes below already explain this sufficiently enough.

The author writes[edit | edit source]

After I saw strip 2079, I got reminded of this idea.

Self-Deprecation is a trope I think we could use more here. Aside from the obvious route of mocking poorly done edits, that is, because I would rather not see somebody get mocked like that.

So, enter SRoMG in 2053, where all the simple mashups have been depleted, any meme is ran to the ground in mere days, and the best you get are mashups that really require you to think, making it a Moon Logic Puzzle just to understand it. At this point, the strip begins to rip off previous strips, in an attempt to stay alive, and keep up its daily rate.

It goes as well as you expect, as you can see here.

Original strip: 1979-05-22.
