Explanation[edit | edit source]

This comic alters Garfield's original ranting to become an altered version of the Konami code - up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A. Since its invention in 1986, the code has become an in-joke among video game fans - and thus, it's referenced in the video game-themed 2012 Disney film Wreck-It Ralph (wherein one character uses it as a password, keyed in on a giant NES controller).

The title is a reference to the anti-piracy system of Settlers III, which instead of preventing play upon detecting an illegal copy changed the output of the iron smelter to produce pigs instead of iron bars. This prevented the player from making weapons and recruiting soldiers, rendering most scenarios unwinnable.

For those that expect a long-winded, scientific explanation, you're out of luck. I'm just going to say this, even if I'm very late to the punch: Go watch Wreck-It Ralph. It's a sweet movie.

Original strip: 2002-02-04.
