Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the strip that was the inspiration for this one, Jon approaches a woman while wearing an accordion, and attempts to flirt with her. She gets excited, thinking she's on "that show where they play practical jokes", a premise similar to Candid Camera, hence the title of this edit. Believing Garfield to be a hidden camera, she picks him up and says, "Hi, mom!"

In this strip, Garfield is watching "The Show Where We Play Practical Jokes", which is suspiciously similar in wording to what the woman says. Today's episode? Why, that time Jon wore an accordion and attempted to hit on a woman, of course! This brings up a few possibilities:

  1. Garfield had (or was) a hidden camera without realizing it.
  2. The woman had a hidden camera, and her instructions were to pretend she "figured out" she was on the show she was in cahoots with.
  3. Same as the above, only the camera was hidden somewhere else.
