Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, Garfield, as "Evil Roy Gato", did his "daily evil deed" by pushing Odie off the table and blaming the mustache, not that he even feigns remorse. Here, he claims to roll 20 to push Odie off the table, and says he loves tabletop RPG.

Role-Playing Games, or RPGs, are games in which you play the role of a character, either one provided or one you build within the game's limitations. A tabletop RPG, also called a pen-and-paper RPG, is one that requires players to keep track of things and reference rules and things in books. It has the advantage of allowing more in the way of imagination, however, which holds a large amount of attraction for some people. Of course, Garfield probably says "tabletop" here because that's where he's standing.

In some forms of the tabletop RPG, when a player wants to perform certain actions, he must roll a die, often 20-sided, add the appropriate stat modifier (probably STR, or Strength here) and possibly an additional bonus if he's proficient in a particular skill (here, probably Athletics). If the resulting number exceeds a certain minimum number -- which is larger if the action is supposed to be harder -- then the player succeeds in the action. Here, Garfield says he rolled a 20; this is highly likely to be a success all on its own.
