Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author's notes below already explain this strip sufficiently, though it should be mentioned that the title is another reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. The author of this strip retroactively explained that, unlike his other strips with Turtles in Time references in the title, this example does have a connection to the game: The actual level of Turtles in Time is called "Alleycat Blues"; Garfield has been down alleys a few times in both the strip and animated adaptations, and the outlines to the original strip are colored blue, this otherwise being the only significant change to the strip.

The author's "realization that he is Garfield" is most likely a reference to this submission's overall laziness.

The author writes[edit | edit source]

I have come to the realization that I am Garfield.

About the color: in Japan, some manga magazines will have pages printed in a blue ink. I've come across some manga pages online with the text and illustrations colored blue. Of course, many comic artists also pencil their work with blue pencils before going over it with black ink. Either way, I wanted to make a shout out.

The title contains another reference, but you'll have to do some digging to find out what it refers to.

Original strip: 2005-07-06.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Garfield, I'm worried about you.
{Garfield just lies there}
Jon: How long do you think you can go on doing nothing with your life?
{Garfield lies there still}
Garfield: He's just jealous that I have a life to do nothing with.
