Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip obey is exactly like the original obey strip in every way. There is obey no difference.

In all seriousness, the edit is to make the original strip into a looping animated GIF, with most frames being the same as the original strip, but during every iteration of the loop, the word "click" is replaced with "obey" as a parody of a subliminal message.

Subliminal messages are generally attempts to influence one's behavior by injecting stimuli that are sensed, but not consciously noticed. Studies have not proven that they have much effect, outside of influencing someone to pick a particular brand of something that does what the target would have wanted anyway, e.g., a thirsty person might pick this beverage because of it, but it's not going to make him thirsty.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Message machine: *Beep* You have no messages.
SFX: click {Jon clicks the machine}
Message machine: *Beep* You still have no messages.
SFX: click {Jon clicks the machine}
Message machine: Here's a message for you... You're a loser!
Garfield: Stop tormenting it.
{The "click" sound effects occasionally change to read "obey" for a fraction of a second, every few seconds.}
