Explanation[edit | edit source]

This author took inspiration from 246: Head to Tail, incorrectly called "Top to Tail" in the author's notes. After an initial misreading of the concept, he decided to do what he thought Nyperold had done.

Any comic with the same concept will always have the same first panel, but the last panel will change daily, while the middle panel will change every other day. For example, this strip's publication was two months and ten days after the date of the last panel's original strip, so duration spent prior to being approved, in slush, and in the queue all affect this. The midpoint will only stop shifting once Garfield is laid to rest.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This is inspired by "Top to Tail" #246 by Nyperold.

My first thought on reading the title was that Nyperold might have taken the first panel of the first strip, the last panel of the current strip, and the middle one of the date midway between the two.

Then when I realised I was mistaken I thought I'd do it myself.

This is the first panel of the first strip, the last panel of today's strip, and the middle one of the one midway between the two. Needless to say this rendition will be out of date by the time it comes out of the buffer : )

Original strips: 1978-06-19, 1994-04-04, 2010-01-18.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Hi, there... I'm Jon Arbuckle. I'm a cartoonist, and this is my cat, Garfield.
Jon: Where's Garfield?
Jon: From now on, I set the thermostat!
Garfield: Oh sure! Blame me!
