Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Garfield watched a family move into a house. A new sign nearby says "I Love My Dogs". Jon asks Garfield what he thinks of the new neighbors. Garfield, who doesn't like dogs, says it's not looking good, as it indicates that not only do they have a general affinity for dogs, but also that they own multiple dogs; their presence will be definite rather than merely theoretical.

In this strip, the sign has been changed to "We Eat Cats". As Garfield is a cat, this is cause for concern on his part.

The author, feeling generous at the time of sending, also submitted a second strip to be published along with it; this strip was a negative of his edit.
