Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, "ninety degrees" referred to the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. (About 32 degrees Celsius, for those who need it converted.) Here, the panel has been isolated, with all dialogue making it clearly the temperature stripped away. The border was probably completely removed, then added again on the bottom and right only. An arc was also added, with 90° typed nearby.

An angle of 90° is called a right angle, and is the defining angle of rectangles (including squares), and the kind of angle for which a right triangle is named; the author's note makes a pun between that meaning and the meaning of "correct".

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Jon is absolutely right.

Original strip: 1990-07-23.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield is lying down. Unusually, only the bottom of the panel and the right of the panel have borders. Near the corner is an arc, and near the arc, it says "90°".}
Jon: It's ninety degrees, Garfield.
{Asleep or awake, Garfield probably doesn't care.}
