In the original Garfield strip, Garfield was nailed into bed because he put the lizard in Jon's shoe.

Here, he was nailed into bed because he glued a blender to Jon's face, which was a running gag from many SRoMG blender strips.

{Jon is hammering nails around Garfield's bed}
SFX: Tap! Tap!
Garfield: Yawn
Garfield: You go out and play, Pooky
Garfield: What the...?
{Pooky quickly rises upwards}
SFX: Zip!
Garfield: Hey, wait a minute! I'm nailed into bed!
{Garfield also rises upwards}
Garfield: Wha?!!
{The perspective changes so that we see Garfield's bed was nailed to the ceiling}
Garfield: I suppose this was for gluing a blender to your face?
Blender-faced Jon: Now we're even
