Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Jon was singing about going to his family's farm for Christmas. Garfield and Odie couldn't stand Jon's bad singing, so they had to hitchhike.

Here, Jon is singing "I Wrote This" (or "Twinkle, Twinkle, Patrick Star") from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Sing a Song of Patrick". The episode is about SpongeBob's friend Patrick writing a song and submitting it to a record company to be professionally recorded. The song is so bad that the band recording it dies shortly after doing so, and when SpongeBob and Patrick put the record on a radio signal antenna so that more people can hear it, everyone else in Bikini Bottom forms an angry mob to protest it. Suffice it to say, Garfield and Odie (and this strip's author, if the commentary is any indication) share the sentiment of the irritated Bikini Bottomites.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Question: What do you get when you combine a segment from The Late, Late Show, a dork who is ATROCIOUS at singing, and one of the most VOMIT-INDUCING SONGS EVER MADE*? Well, it's either a mess or one of the weirdest things I ever came up with. What do you think?

And if this gets enough good reviews... maybe I can make it a thing with other songs that are bad (well, parts of them anyway...)

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon {preparing to sing}: OHHHHHHH...
Garfield: No!
{This panel and following panels show John singing WAY off-key while Garfield & Odie try their darndest to ignore it}
Jon {singing... badly}: Twinkle, twinkle, Patrick Star!
Jon {singing... badly}: I made myself a sandwich!
Jon {singing... badly}: My mommy named it Fred. It tastes like beans and bacon, and smells like it's been dead! Writing stuff is hard so I use a pointy pencil, pointy pointy pointy, pointy pointy point! P.U., what's that horrible smell?! Drum solo!
Jon {singing... badly}: I have a head, that ends in a point, pointy pointy pointy, pointy pointy point. This song is over, except for this line, you win this round, broccoli!
{up-close shot of Jon}
Jon: So, what do you boys want to sing next?
{This panel shows Garfield & Odie out of the car and attempting to hitchhike while Jon drives off}
Jon: Boys?
