Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip is essentially a standard-fare "Linguistics with Liz" strip, only using the Wingdings font as opposed to a foreign language. The Wingdings in the second panel translates to what one would expect from this running gag.

As the Wingdings font itself only appears in Microsoft-distributed products, the author appears to have used similar Unicode characters in the transcript for the benefit of users of products that don't include the actual Wingdings font; it is currently unknown just how accurate the author was at this due to a later site recoding effort turning that line into mojibake.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Given how rooted in geek humor SRoMG is, I'm surprised this hasn't been done yet.

...Can this meme die now?

[Two authors sent this idea in independently. -Ed]

Original strip: 2017-11-17.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Liz: Jon?
Jon: Yes?
Liz: ✡︎□︎◆︎ ♋︎❒︎♏︎ ♋︎ ❒︎♋︎♎︎♓︎⬧︎♒︎
Jon: I will never understand Wingdings
Garfield: I think she just called you a radish

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's transcript was hit by mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript unaffected by mojibake is currently lost to the public due to this.
