Explanation[edit | edit source]

This is an amalgam of two different Garfield comics: the first two are unaltered panels from one, while the latter is taken from another comic with a similar context (it's a pun on "word from our sponsor", natch).

"National World International Fridgeday" (which occurs on April 31st, an impossible date) appears to be an invention of the author: the first mention of the holiday dates back to 2008, and he continued to use it in 2014. It is apparently a day celebrating non-sequiturs - hence this strip, which fits the bill like a glove.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

For those not acquainted with National World International Fridgeday, this celebration of randomness/insanity takes place on the 31st of April every year. Of course, no Garfield cartoon has ever been published for that date, so I improvised one. Strips used: 1982-04-30 and 1982-01-05.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

TV: We'll be right back after this word from our sponsor.
Garfield: I gotta fix that vertical hold.
TV: "Sasquatch".
