Explanation[edit | edit source]

The note briefly explains the idea behind it, but let us consider the implications.

In the first new strip, Garfield attempts to conceal his smashing of a flowerpot by standing somewhere else, namely, beside a roast chicken. Surely, if he's near food, he could not have been responsible for the earlier transgression. (Though he is likely to at least be warned about the chicken, if Jon doesn't figure Garfield swollen cheeks are from some part of it being in his mouth already.)

In the second new strip, he attempts to conceal his whereabouts by looking like a him-themed flowerpot, in hopes that even if Jon sees the chicken with an empty spot where a leg should be, he won't find him. Though Jon appears to have figured it out already. (Especially if he knows he has no merchandise of his own cat.)

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

The two "Oh-uh here comes Jon"s so close to each other caught my attention and I switched their final panels.

Original strips: 1979-05-04, 1979-05-10.
