Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This is a fusion of two comics, with a third thrown in the mix. I thought those episodes were pretty similar, with the Odie spinning and neck-twisting. I also edited the title panel, which is something I'm going to attempt to keep doing for Sundays.

Original strips: 1979-03-16, 1980-01-13, 1991-03-31.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Marmaduke is looking confused at Garfield, who wrote SRoMG on the nearby fence, where the word Garfield used to be}
Garfield {in a very thin font}: Square root of minus Garf...!
Garfield: 💡
{Garfield walks towards Odie}
{Odie continues watching as Garfield walks past him... thrice}
{Garfield runs in a circle. Odie begins to spin}
{Garfield stops moving}
{Beat}
Garfield: That's driving me crazy!
Garfield {grabbing Odie}: STOPPIT, ODIE!
{Odie is still spinning, but after a beat, suddenly stops. His neck is twisted oddly}
{Odie begins to twist back again}
Garfield {still holding Odie} AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!
SFX: WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
{Enter Jon}
Jon: I think I came in late again
{Exit Jon}
Garfield {stomping down, stopping Odie in his tracks}: That's good enough!
SFX: SCREEE
{Odie's neck is now twisted the other way}
Garfield: (I thought so...)
Garfield: Thanks for the exercise! {He proceeds to punt Odie}
Odie {chasing Garfield away}: BARK! BARK! BARK!

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's transcript was hit by mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript unaffected by mojibake is currently lost to the public due to this. The strip itself implies the mojibake may not be directly fixable, as any singular lightbulb character would presumably be an emoji (such as 💡), which is not compatible with the current workings of the Square Root of Minus Garfield site, as 5301: Gౡrfiⵥld and 5302: Garfward Jonbles's original transcripts would prove.
