Explanation[edit | edit source]

In this strip, author Dan Walsh of Garfield Minus Garfield fame again removes Garfield from a strip, but this time from a situation where Jon might not want Garfield present, anyway, as the original strip suggests: Liz and Jon together after a date. He also used basically the same panel, the second one, for all three panels, the differences being the gutters, signature, and date on the first and third panels, and the word balloons.

The original dialogue has been replaced with a song apparently about lovers who must part.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I've spent the last couple of years revealing what a sad, lonely, loser Jon is, so with this strip I've decided to turn him into the world's smoothest lover. I've removed Garfield (of course), moved stuff around, chopped things up and replaced the original text. Here we have Jon serenading his lover with the first few lines from Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye by Leonard Cohen. Smooth.

Original strip: 2007-08-23

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: I loved you in the morning...
Jon: our kisses deep and warm...
Jon: your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm.
