Explanation[edit | edit source]

This comic attempts to retell the events of the given comic as though in real time. In real time, you can't go back and reorganize details into a less confusing format once you've said them; you can only add words and hope that helps. Thus, when the author "realizes" that he hasn't mentioned an important detail, he adds it where he is, starting a new paragraph. He also feels the need to tell us things we'd assume if he didn't tell us, such as that Jon is wearing the same shirt in the second panel as in the first panel, and in the third panel as in the second. But, as in life, you can't unsay what was said; thus, he doesn't eliminate these unnecessary parts of the description.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Original strip: 2007-09-05.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Okay, so, in the first panel, Jon walks in and says good morning to Garfield. Garfield says good morning back. Well, Garfield thinks it. You know what I mean.
Then in the second panel, Garfield takes a sip of coffee. Jon is just staring straight ahead at something. He's wearing a striped shirt. He was wearing the same shirt in the first panel too, I should have said that before.
And then in the third panel, Jon, he's wearing the same shirt but that's not really important, Jon says that he thinks the toaster has a short. Like, as in, a short circuit. And Garfield says, or rather thinks, or rather asks, whether Jon is an electrician all of a sudden.
Did I mention that Jon's hair is pointing out like he's been shocked, and he's sort of glowing and smoking? And his eyes are bulging out. That's why he was staring straight ahead in the second panel.
I guess you had to be there.
