Explanation[edit | edit source]

The strip's title makes usage of both Chinese and Japanese characters, which make machine translations between one language and another difficult. The first character in particular (绿) is a simplified Chinese character which translates to "green" not typically readable by machine translations from Japanese, and even dedicated Japanese-to-English dictionaries might not list that character; the character's traditional Chinese counterpart is 綠, and the typical character meaning green within the context of Japanese kanji is 緑. The rest of the phrase can be interpreted cleanly within Japanese context, which Bing's translator lists as "jealousy of the eyed"--眼 being a kanji meaning "eye", の as a typical connecting character seen as similar to an "of", and ジェラシー meaning "jealousy". The rough overall interpretation one can make of the title would lend to something along the lines of "Green-Eyed Jealousy". This title describes the title explained in the author's notes fairly well; the character mentioned in said author's notes, Parsee Mizuhashi, is a character from Subterranean Animism, a game in the Touhou project, who is green-eyed and can manipulate jealousy.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Parsee Mizuhashi (水橋 パルスィ Mizuhashi Parusi) is a hashihime, or bridge princess, who guards the "bridge" between the surface world and the Underworld. She is able to control the jealousy in others.

Original strip: 2011-06-21.
