I thought about including a picture of the idol of Diana (also called Artemis) herself, but didn't think it would pass the PG rating the site requires... If you squint and turn your head, you can see Demetrius holding one, maybe giving you an idea of what a fifty foot tall version looks like.

Original Square Root of Minus Garfield strip: 2013-03-30.

Original scripture: Acts 19:23-28 (King James Version).

Picture of Demetrius: 19th century woodcarving, artist unknown

Original strip: 2013-02-02.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield shows off his oddly not very shiny, sort of dull and bland, silver shrine, must be the light angle or something, not because the artist could not be troubled to change the color, oh no...}
Garfield: I have built a perfect silver shrine of the temple of Diana at Ephesus
Garfield: It took days...
Garfield: Great is Diana of the Ephesians
{Suddenly a Sunday School lesson bursts upon the scene! Demetrius, the silversmith of Ephesus, is looking out for the bottom line, er, the glory of his patron goddess!}
Text: And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth. And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Acts 19:23-28
