Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Jon left the room and found his bow ties gone, for Garfield was burning them.

This edit gives the scenario a darker turn, as instead of bow ties burning, it's Odie, whose blood Jon has found on his bowl.

The title is likely a reference to the ultra-famous Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Garfield has been around for so long, and has eaten so many chemicals, been affected by so many strange events, that surely he's likely to suddenly ... crack?

Original strip: 1985-11-08.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Garfield, you make a lovely fire.
Garfield: I do make a lovely fire.
Jon: Well, I gotta go get ready for my date. You enjoy your lovely fire.
Garfield: I'll enjoy my lovely fire.
Jon: Hey! Why is Odie's bowl covered in blood?
Garfield: He makes a lovely fire.
