Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I saw today's (as of writing this) Garfield comic, and thought of the fact that this is just a repeat of an old joke, and also thought of [https://mezzacotta.net/garfield/?comic=952 SRoMG #952, "Dog of a Thousand Faces v.2"', so I decided to make this. I also directly lifted parts of the transcript from it.

I suspect somebody will use the original comics for a Spot The Difference With Garfield sometime.

Also, here's a bonus alternate version from while I was editing it. Let's call this one...

No. 5395-B: Face of Two Dogs

{Odie stares vacantly and drools, Garfield gestures at Odie} Garfield: Odie, the dog of a thousand faces! {Garfield stares at Odie, who stares vacantly and drools} Garfield: That's one... {Garfield, suddenly in the modern comic style, turns around to see another Odie, who stares vacantly and drools, also in the modern comic style} Garfield: That's two...

The author writes, again:

I considered using formatted text to recreate the entire SRoMG page for this with the buttons and "Strip by" and everything but decided it was too gimmicky for a simple edit and also it'd just be a hassle for the site admins.

Original strips: 2011-08-09, 2023-05-10.
