Explanation[edit | edit source]

Zalgo (NSFW link) is an Internet meme concerning an unknown, eldritch entity that affects cartoons & comics and causes all sorts of creepy stuff to occur; usually, it manifests in insanity, massive amounts of corrupted text, and people bleeding black liquid from their eyes. It was originally created by prominent Something Awful member Shmorky, as part of several altered Nancy and Archie comics. This comic actually predates SRoMG by quite some time, likely having been created during part of the initial "rush" (such as it was).

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Original strip: 2002-07-01.

Admin note: Playing on the Zalgo meme. This strip was originally submitted anonymously by a reader who found it somewhere on the net. I have since tracked down and contacted the original author, who was delighted to have his work shown here.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Jon reads a book. A cookie jar is on the table near him}
Cookie jar: He comes.
{Jon's eyes start bleeding}
Jon: Zalgo.
{A tentacle emerges from the cookie jar...}

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • It wasn't until early 2015 that the aforementioned discovery came about; as detailed in the third installment of this series, someone finally noticed the "evilscary" watermark in the first panel. As such, the admin note originally read "More anonymous weirdness. Playing on the Zalgo meme."

Later references[edit | edit source]

This strip managed to get an impressive eight sequels: #578, #2088, #2118, #2140, #2198, #2231, #2301, and #2356.
