Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Jon tells Garfield they're going to babysit their kitten, and introduces Nermal. Garfield wants to sleep out the duration of Nermal's stay.

In the original xkcd strip, the "Human Proximity to Cat" is the x-axis for a graph plotting the decrease in demonstrated intelligence and the increase in the inanity of one's statements the closer one is to a cat, culminating in the stick-figure human telling the typical felis domesticus: "You're a kitty!".

This strip combines the two by removing the y-axis and plotted lines and the stick-figure cartoon and replacing it with a thought-bubble-removed version of the third panel twice, followed by a version of the second panel with the background color changed, as well as Jon's speech balloon; in addition to a different shape, instead of "Meet Nermal", it now says "You're a kitty!", as copied and pasted from the original comic.
