Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author, aside from correcting the color of Garfield's muzzle in the second panel, decided to orient the panels so that the halftone would be level, based on a practice he used to employ with just his head. He also evened them up, because it looks better that way.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

One thing I always liked about the old Garfield comics was the lopsided background. It would invariably be at an angle in the first panel, straight in the second, then crooked again in the third. It's very rare that the backgrounds would be different in every panel. I liked to tilt my head when seeing these panels, and this strip seemed like the best example to employ it, having all of them be even. I also recoloured Garfield's lips to make them more visible.

Original strip: 1986-06-14.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: I am not leaning on you.
