Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Jon apparently rescued Garfield from intentionally killing himself with the footrest of a recliner. This comic makes Jon only discover it after the deed has been done. Reusing a flipped version of the arm from the first panel, the author depicts Garfield after he has let go of the lever and died. Apparently, Jon is now carrying him away in a box (which, in that panel's original strip, contained Christmas decorations... and a spider).

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

In February of 1989, Garfield attempted suicide. Fortunately Jon was there to stop him. But what if Jon had been one panel too late?

Original strip: 1989-02-11, 1992-12-17.
