Explanation[edit | edit source]

The zero function is a function that returns a value of 0 no matter what you put into it. The author ran the color values of each pixel through the function, thus generating a black rectangle. This relates to the original strip, in which Garfield was supposed to be doing sit-ups, but never got past a count of zero.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Oh come on, someone had to do it. For reference: zero function.

Original strip from 1998-07-24.
