Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the title, the minuend and the subtrahend have become transposed; in the comic itself, the author depicts what it might look like if Jim Davis had merely redone Randall's example strip instead of coming up with something on his own. (Of course, he likely would not have had the signature and date in all three panels.)

Incidentally, the strip used is about Garfield encouraging everyone to do his best... with the intent that he won't have to do much of anything. This may or may not be a commentary on the state of Garfield comics.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Original Garfield strip: 2002-01-01.

The original xkcd strip by Randall Munroe is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 Licence.

[Admin note: I received this strip from a different author completely independently of the previous strip, and just two days later.]
