Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip is a mild jab at an odd trend in Garfield: the fact that the background color (which is usually assumed to be the Arbuckle household's wallpaper) often changes radically from panel to panel. The author chalks it up to an attempt to make the comic's (infamously staid) visuals more lively, pointing to a particularly odd example where the wallpaper has a pattern (unlike most other strips, where it's one solid color).

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

The need for visual interest without fuss is met with an unnerving device. 2000-07-30 is a particularly psychedelic example.

Original strip: 2000-03-25.

Transcript[edit | edit source]
