Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, Jon calls on his cat to catch a mouse, and scolds him for not trying, whereupon Garfield gives us one of his reasons for not doing so.

The author's edit removes Garfield, but instead of also removing his thoughts it has them coming from a different source: Jon himself.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Once again, we see Jon imagining witticisms from his imaginary cat.

Original strip: 1978-06-21.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: A mouse! Get it!
Jon: Garfield! You didn't ever try!
Jon: {thinking to himself} Show me a good mouser, and I'll show you a cat with bad breath.
