Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip essentially compiles two unaltered comic strip panels involving trickery into having someone fall for an out-of-season encounter with Halley's Comet, one from Garfield and another from Pooch Café. Halley's Comet was last visible from Earth in early 1986, and its next approach is expected to be in mid-2061; the original Garfield strip was three years too early, whereas Pooch Café first launched fourteen years too late and this particular Pooch Café strip was roughly eleven years after that (for a total of twenty-five years removed from the 1986 comet approach).

I saw the original Pooch Café strip on the TV Tropes page for "Look Behind You", noticed Garfield once used the same "Halley's Comet" distraction on Jon, and the rest followed from there.
