119: Frozen Garfield

Explanation[edit | edit source]
In the original strip, Jon stops as Garfield decides he wants to talk about his own day.
In this strip, "Garfield" is probably just a lawn ornament, and Jon realizes he's been talking to it all this time, thus cementing his mental breakdown.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
The original strip is from 1993-02-07.
I had originally intended Jon to think out loud "...and why am I talking to a lawn ornament?", but it was funnier when his mental breakdown was silent and implied by context. So try reading the strip again, but replace Garfield with a lawn ornament that looks like Garfield.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Jon: You wouldn't believe my day, Garfield.
Jon: First, I tripped and fell down six flights of stairs.
Jon: When I landed, I got my head stuck in a bucket of pork chops.
Jon: Then, a roaming pack of hungry wolves mistook me for lunch...
Jon: ... and chased me into an open elevator shaft, which wouldn't have been so bad had it not been for the rabid shaft badgers.
Jon: And then I...
{Jon realises Garfield hasn't moved a muscle since he started talking}
{silent beat}
