The author writes:

Upon seeing the original strip, I figured it could use a good expanding. There's 27 penultimate beat panels here. It made the strip ten times funnier. Maybe I should go for the record of largest number of beat panels one of these days.

As a side note here, this strip was actually submitted the night before it appeared.
