Explanation[edit | edit source]
Removing everything from a strip of Garfield except Garfield himself, then removing everything from the original strip that was not removed, leaves just the cat himself. Expressed mathematically, Strip - (Strip - Garfield) = Strip - Strip + Garfield = Garfield.
This particular strip was chosen to exploit Garfield's apparent recognition of everything else having disappeared.

I'm actually surprised this idea hasn't been used yet (unless it has and it's still in the buffer).
Original strip: 1989-10-24
Transcript[edit | edit source]
{A field of white, with only Garfield in it}
Garfield: Jon? Odie?
Garfield: Anybody home?
Garfield: I'm alone.
