This strip takes the original Garfield strip, originally about Garfield making a fire out of Jon's bow ties, and reworks the premise of the third panel so that Garfield made a fire out of Jon himself.
The author did not specify which specific FoxTrot inspired the remixing of this strip; the linked Wikiquote page included the inspiration line under the title My Hot Dog Went Out, Can I Have Another?, the title of a FoxTrot strip compilation book that collected that feature's strips between 2004-03-15 and 2004-10-31, which ultimately led to unearthing the 2004-07-13 strip as the source. FoxTrot itself made reference to Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire" in its original strip.
