Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip takes the original Garfield strip, originally about the bird introducing his merely off-screen bodyguard Bernie with Garfield reacting appropriately, and turns it into a reference to the play Waiting for Godot by renaming Bernie to Godot and imply that he physically isn't present even off-screen; Garfield's reaction is deleted as there's no Bernie/Godot present for him to react to.

This strip would not be the last one to be named "Godotfield"; 3630: Godotfield and 5807: Godotfield both make a reference to an Ace Attorney character named Godot, the character in question being named after the Waiting for Godot title character.
