How do you recognise a character? Do you recognise them by shape and features? Or do you recognise them by personality? For instance, how do you know that's Jon under the sweater? If you were to completely remove a character of all their features, how would you recognise them? How do you know that's not Odie? Or Liz? Or Nermal? Or Arlene? Or anybody else? How do you know that's Garfield? How do you know it is Garfield? How do you even know it's a cat? If all cartoon characters were silhouettes, would you be able to tell who's who? Interesting question.
Original strip: 2002-07-13.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
{Jon and Garfield are both completely hidden under sack-like clothing}
Jon: If mom had added a hole for my head, this would be my favorite sweater.
Garfield: So, let me get this straight...
Garfield: This is your second-favorite sweater?
