Explanation[edit | edit source]
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
I was visiting a book store the other day and came across the 30 Years of Laughs & Lasagna book. Having nothing better to look at, I looked into the section at the end of the book where Jim Davis talked about 30 different strips throughout the years. The November 19, 1997 strip was among them, and Davis lamented that the reference to decoder rings dated it. I thought I could fix it with something that had the same concept, but isn't a product of its time. And what could be more timeless than toys?
Fun fact: The word "bonus" was only ever used twice so far in the history of the comic.
Original strips: 1988-12-09, 1997-11-19, 2013-02-03.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Garfield: Cereal is not healthy.
Garfield: Oh, it's nutritious enough...
Garfield, But, ever try to pass a bonus toy?
Trivia[edit | edit source]
The credits for 1988-12-09 and 2013-02-03 in the current strip crediting system are presumably unintentional; those strips were not credited in the remnants of the old strip crediting system. It is presumed that the transition between crediting systems looked through the entire author's notes and not just what corresponded to the old crediting system, saw a link to those strips in the author's notes proper, and interpreted them as strips to credit.
