Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip is the third in three days to make fun of Jon's "aardvark"-"life" mixup from the 2013-06-24 strip; this one pulls a #268-style substitution in the third panel by replacing Garfield with the titular Aardvark from The Ant and the Aardvark, who states Garfield's line.

Contrary to what is stated in the author's notes, The Ant and the Aardvark was not made specifically for television; they were a series of theatrically-released cartoon shorts attached to United Artists features between 1969 and 1971, and later reran on television in various syndication packages, The New Pink Panther Show being one of them.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

When I hear "aardvark" I think of that blue meanie from The Ant and the Aardvark, a series of cartoons made to be "B" features on the Saturday Morning Pink Panther Show. Interesting sideline: the voices of the characters were intended specifically as celebrity impersonations... the ant as Dean Martin and the aardvark as comedian and Rat Pack member Joey Bishop.

Original strip: 2013-06-24.
