1616: Just to Clear Things Up

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip is essentially the original Garfield strip with a specially-crafted fourth panel tacked on; this fourth panel depicts Jon coming back onto the scene to answer the question that was Garfield's last line with a "no" answer. Jon's answer of "no" fits the real-life situation surrounding the strip, as this strip first ran on a Monday.
The fourth panel, however, fell into the Ambidextrous Sprite trap; Jon in that panel is a horizontal mirror from the first panel, but this serves to change which cheek the blender is glued onto--the original Garfield strip, and by extension the first two panels of this strip, has Jon glue the blender onto his left cheek, whereas the fourth panel of this strip has the blender glued onto Jon's right cheek, in all instances with the blender being farther from the viewer than Jon's head and the cheek facing the viewer being uninjured. A more realistic portrayal, probably beyond most Square Root of Minus Garfield authors' skillsets, would involve Jon returning to the scene with the blender on the same cheek as before, but now being closer to the viewer than Jon's head and obscuring a sizable chunk of said head from the viewer's viewpoint.
