On Feb. 2nd, 2013, Doonesbury upset a lot of people with the comic featuring the two panels at the start and end and a totally blank space inbetween. A meme was born with a lot of people associated with webcomics filled in the space (including one with a panel from Garfield Minus Garfield), but I felt Square Root of Minus Garfield also needed to be represented with three panels from among the most frequently 'Square Rooted' strips.
Original Doonesbury strip: 2013-02-02.
Original strips: 2001-11-28, 2008-04-26, 2012-12-06.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Zonker Harris: "@Zonker What happens to comics if newspapers go away?"
Mike Doonesbury: What happens? Take a look!
Jon: I glued a blender to my face.
Jon: Gee, I sure wanted that last donut.
Garfield: They haven't stopped making frozen pudding pops, have they
Zonker Harris: Feel how empty your life became? If only for a second?
Mike Doonesbury: Stick with print folks. This DOESN'T have to happen.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
The link to the original Doonesbury strip no longer works as intended; the link in question is to the now-busted unsecured "images.ucomics.com" domain, and likely was taken from a Garfield-link base and adjusted for Doonesbury. The strip in question is available on GoComics here, and the version of the strip originally served by the busted link is still available via a secure-domain mirror.
