Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This is a simple modification to one of the baffling Garfield strips that Platypus Comix pointed out to make it funnier. A possible theory is that Jim Davis wanted to use these names, but he wasn’t popular enough to infringe on copyrights.

Original strip: 1981-01-27.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Guido: My name's Laurel, and this here is my associate, Hardy.
Garfield: Laurel and Hardy?
Guido: I've killed for less that that.
Garfield: One of your sensitive-tough types.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's author's notes were hit with mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original author's notes unaffected by mojibake are currently lost to the public as a result.
